Where does ginseng grow?

Iv'e heard it grows in the northeast of america. I live in Ohio. Theres lots of plants that look like it but I don't know if it is ginseng or a baby buckeye tree or some weeds.

  1. Ginseng is a wild plant which grows naturally on a north facing slope.  It requires appropriate amounts of sun, shade, moisture and, most of all, quiet.  It will not grow where there are lots of animals or where the soil is disturbed often.

    If you find ginseng being planted and harvested from a garden, it is usually of poor quality.

    Ginseng hunters usually guard their source very carefully because 'over-harvesting' can wipe out the plants very quickly.
