  1. kinda confusing question, it only comes from flowing water, almost always from a damed river. maybe it means in a more general way, such as river, lake, ocean?

  2. it only comes from water, but it can come from flow and waves.  Damms are very foolish and destroy a great deal of habitat, but the utilization of wave energy and tidal flow makes great sense and is very environmentally friendly.

  3. Mark Anthony seems to know his stuff.

  4. Hydro = water.  It comes from moving water, either dams or streams that turn generators.

    I hope this helps.

  5. Water.  The hydro refers to water.  Hydroelectric is the electric that come from the water.  This usually occurs at dams, or places where a water wheel can be set up so that the water makes the power.

  6. Most hydroelectric power comes from the potential energy of dammed water driving a water turbine and generator.

Pumped storage hydroelectricity produces electricity to supply high peak demands by moving water between reservoirs at different elevations. At times of low electrical demand, excess generation capacity is used to pump water into the higher reservoir. When there is higher demand, water is released back into the lower reservoir through a turbine. Pumped storage schemes currently provide the only commercially important means of large-scale grid energy storage and improve the daily load factor of the generation system. Hydroelectric plants with no reservoir capacity are called run-of-the-river plants, since it is not then possible to store water.

A tidal power plant makes use of the daily rise and fall of water due to tides; such sources are highly predictable, and if conditions permit construction of reservoirs, can also be dispatchable to generate power during high demand periods.

Less common types of hydro schemes use water's kinetic energy or undammed sources such as undershot waterwheels.

Not sure about our quetstion however these are different ways to use water to generate electricity.

  7. this questions is confusing because hydroelectricity only comes from moving water. The moving water can come in different forms however. Tidal movement, ocean waves, flowing streams and dammed rivers.

  8. Hoover dam.  If you are ever in Vegas, drive to the dam and take the tour, it's great.

  9. I can only think of one: dams.
