  1. TexMex was right on about the seasons here!  Sooo true!

I'd say Boulder gets coldest and has the most snow, but I have nothing but personal observations to base that on.  The weather in Colorado is pretty wacky, so you can have a 70 degree day in the middle of winter and then a cold day in August.

  2. Gunnison usually has the worst winter weather and most snow.  Boulder and Fort Collins are about the same, and Denver gets less but doesn't clear their streets very often since the sun melts the majority of a big snowfall in a day or two.

  3. i think in fort collins.

  4. Boulder and Ft Collins probably get about the same amount of snow.  However Boulder is much more populated and the roads get plowed fast, therefore there wouldn't be as big of a problem for commuters.  It's also much closer to Denver.  Ft Collins is quite bit further and few people living there.  If it snows, getting from Ft. Collins to Denver through I-25 will be a pain.

  5. nope.  Southern part of the State gets the most snow, with Steamboat Springs coming in a bit behind the San Juan Mountains.

And, no.  They aren't cold.  In fact, for most of the winter there isn't much snow at all in the foothills.  The snow is in the mountains.  I generally don't even wear a coat at all in Denver.  I take it off when the car warms up, and I put it back on when I pull into my driveway, unless there's a traffic jam at the tunnel.  Then everyone turns their cars off, and they get cold.  Always keep a coat in the car in case of emergency, but I rarely wear it in the cities.

  6. We have 4 seasons in the Front Range/denver area:

    Summer,

    Early Winter

    Winter

    and late Winter

We can get temp as high as 100 in the summer. So it doesn't snow all year round.

Boulder is closest to the foothills so you would think it gets the most.

Ft Collins is further north so you might think it might.

But actually, all 3 cities are close enough to each other to get hit by the same storms, meaning the snow is about the same.

  7. Denver, for those of us who live in or near Fort Collins we live in the Banana Belt which means that when Denver, etal are getting snow we don't get anything, only sun.

  8. Of those three, probably Boulder as it's closer to the foothills.  Ft Collins is further north, but also east.  But in all of CO the most snow is in the mountain towns.  The higher the elevation the more snow.  In the metro area, we can get up to 7 feet in 24 hours, or little flurries that last for minutes.  It really varies widely.  For the most part the Denver area has a remarkable climate, more sunny days than Miami and weather that can change from clear and sunny to hailstorms in a short time.  The weather is mostly good but can change quickly.  I've lived and traveled all over the place and never found such a great (but quirky) climate.

  9. Boulder probably gets the most out of those cities, but the mountains get most of it. It's not always cold in Denver it can get really hot in the summer.

  10. The weather in Boulder can go from 90 degrees in the summer to around 10 in the winter. Also its Colorado the weather changes constantly, it even rains when its sunny! For where it says most I would say Fort Collins, it snows alot in Boulder but Fort Collins is farther north. I think last year was a record snow year, which is good because we're in a drought over here, i think last time it rained was a couple of months ago.

    GO BUFFS! GO CU!

If you're planning on going to college here keep in mind that CU was voted one of the most beautiful campuses in the world. If you're a skier the time to the nearest ski resort from Boulder is 1 hour drive up the mountains (Eldora, would be shorter but the road is really curvy) or I-70 to Copper Mountain, Winter Park, and more is about 2 hours. From Denver tack on 1-2 hours.

If you want snow I would recommend some place in the mountains like nederland ( just west of Boulder and snows almost every day, it seems, in the winter) or steamboat springs (ski town) where the snow gets 5-6 ft high some times.

read this for more perspective on what its like to be a Coloraden, so true, so true.

  11. It usually snows just a touch more in Boulder then Denver, a lot of times Denver will have like 2” of snow and Boulder will have 3”.  But all and all they are about the same climate.

Fort Collins is a little more North about 50 or 60 miles from Denver and boulder and it gets a little colder in the winter sometimes it also has a little more wind in the winter.

They are all fairly mild for being in the Rocky Mountain regions and have 4 very distinct seasons.
