  9. It's no longer wood, it's minerals setting into the pores of the wood and becoming rock.

  10. Since when does petrified wood live?

  11. Petrified wood (from the Greek root "petro" meaning "rock" or "stone", literally "wood turned into stone") is a type of fossil: it consists of fossil wood where all the organic materials have been replaced with minerals (most often a silicate, such as quartz), while retaining the original structure of the wood.

I am sure the wikipedia site will explain it all into greater detail,

    GOOD LUCK

  12. Matt, a better way of putting it would be: "Where petrified wood could be found?"

By the way, "petrified" means "dead" in some way.
