Where does "women love guitars" myth come from?

So, I heard regularly that women are really into guitars, bands and guitar players. From my experience, this myth is severely backwards. It would appear that most women are generally turned off by guitars and bands. The most common complaint is, "its too loud" or, "it all sounds the same" even when you're clearly not playing the same scales or music.

Where does this stupid myth come from?

guitar players are confident and cool. i dont think women can stand guitar music, unless they are really hardcore into the band, or if the music is sweet and soft. women like the person holding the guitars. and i think it makes them feel good to see a man move his fingers fast if you know what i mean

It is not a myth, Females perceive the guitar as security to pay the utility bills and live an extravagant, lavish lifestyle.

I respectfully disagree with you. I was somewhere just last week & observed that I feel for the guitar player...I was in Nashville. The grand ole' Opry Hotel or mall eating dinner. The place is magnificient & not old & ugly like I thought it would be. As we walked in a young man was singing songs & playing guitar. I thought he was really s**y. As the evening went on I looked up & saw this guy who was let's just say, not cute at all, he looked like an idiot...I then thought "OMG, that is the guitar player". it was as if they were 2 different people. So I don't see a myth I see a fact here or alteast where I am concerned.

The media glamorizes things.  If a rockstar is fawned over, people may stereotype that women love guitars.

I disagree. I can't believe I am in hearts with Clapton because he looks cute in old man pants and polished oxfords! It's got to be the old slowhand lays the smack down on the gee-tar!
