  1. It get's shipped by railroad and truck to different central drop off points underground. The containers that the waste is in, goes under extensive crash testing before getting approved for use. They make sure things like getting hit by a train at full speed can't break it open. The drop points underground are fortified in concrete and shock proof floors and walls.

  2. Government designates sites for storage...different states...

  3. i believe they keep the waste from powerplants underwater for hundreds of years until it is safe.

  4. Besides leaking from containers in deep water, Africa is a favorite destination:

Of course, speaking of only those that we know of...

  5. It depends on where you are.  In France, it is reprocessed to produce new fuel.  France generates approximately 80% of its electrical power using nuclear energy and they have a very effective reprocessing program.

In the U.S. it is stored in water baths at the site of the reactors.  There are plans to move it to a central depository, but these are not fully developed at this time.  We should reprocess it like France.

  6. in any sensible country it is processed back into more fuel & used to produce more electricity.

in the U.S. because of liberal politics preventing isotope extraction,it is stored at nuclear power plant sites scattered all around the country waiting for terrorists to blow it up & pollute the surrounding area.

  7. Into the ground, very deep. In storage facilities which over time leek, then into your water supply.

  8. Most is put into pools or holding cells underground. The sites r located near the nuclear plant.
