  1. Begins in childhood; if parents expect too much from their kids, or don't show love, or tell them that what they do is WRONG;

    then they will develop a low self esteem and think of themselves as being always wrong, or thinking life is too hard, or thinking they can't do anything right.

    It could also result from frequent failure with the same outcome.

    But basically, self-hate is pretty much the same thing as just a low self-esteem, but more of a "I hate myself because I can't do anything right." kind of thing...

  2. From people (usually caregivers during formative years) who do not exhibit unconditional love but rather are critical, overbearing or judgmental. It's learned.
