I'm trying to trace the origin of my family who left Mexico. to settle in the Philippines. Sources say that the origin of the surname is Basque (Euskera) but as far as I know I do not have any Spanish ancestors, just Mexican. I also would like to know how common Ondiz is in Spanish-speaking countries. Thanks!

  1. The language of Mexico is Spanish, along with that goes Spanish first and last names, so the fact that you think you only have Mexican ancestors is not necessarily true, your pre-Mexican ancestors may well have been Spanish.

Spanish is the native language of 332 million people in the world. In addition to Spain, Spanish is the official language of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. In addition, it is widely spoken in several other nations, including Canada, Morocco, the Philippines, and the United States.
