Where does the last name "van Russian" originate.?

I am confused because the person is German, but it totally contradicts itself. The "van" is probably Dutch, and Russian isn't Dutch nor German? I am sooo confused.

  1. German nobility had "van" and "von" before their names.

Russian could be a corruption of another word or could be a reference to where this person's ancestor came from.

what the name could be telling you is that this person's ancestor was a member of the German nobility who originally came from Russia.
