  3. puwula is wrong.  Lightning is not an electric mass, it is not produced by clouds collidiing, and it is not attracted by the earth's magnetic field.

  4. It can go anywhere. Lightning can travel cloud to ground, ground to cloud, or even cloud to cloud.

  5. Lightening is nothing but mass of current  produced at  the collision of heavy clouds(water bearing clouds). As soon as the current is released, magnetic field of earth attracts it. The  tallest subjects attract this electric mass, if they were protected by preventive measures, lightening reach the earth.
