where does each political stand when it comes to this?

Neither "party" stands anywhere on that issue. There have always been some Democrats who support school prayer and some Republicans who oppose it. That issue has been a pretty much dead issue for many years now. Conservatives have stopped having respect for public schools -- you can tell that because they want government to issue vouchers so that virtually all parents can send their kids to private schools instead -- and they no longer want public schools to have the voluntary prayer that they used to talk about back during the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

Introducing the book "Heather Has Two Mommies" into the public schools has ruined the respect that conservatives used to have for public schools.

All politicians are not supporting a prayer in school in order not to hurt religious groups that do not believe in prayers.
