Where does the swimming take place in 2008 olympics, and volley ball, etc? ?

this might be a little bit of a stupid question, but does the Bird's Nest (2008 Olympic Stadium) use that very stadium for it's swimming ,basketball, and volleyball events? I never understood where the events take place..for example, is volleyball somewhere outside the stadium or do they literally make the volleyball court indoors in that stadium? Do they put the swimming pool in? and is it covered by wood sections when it's time for the basketball game? What about boxing? Does that go over the pool, and the rest of the pool is covered? or is boxing recorded elsewhere? I always wondered if you could just buy tickets to the olympics and see all these events, and if their in 1 stadium, or if they are at an offsite locations. Thanks

  1. The Beijing Olympics organizers have built many, many buildings to accommodate all of the events that are taking place simultaneously over a period of 16 days. I wasn't able to find the exact number of buildings, but I do know for sure that the beach volleyball, swimming/diving, track and field, weightlifting, etc. events are in different buildings.

For example, the football/soccer events are held in several cities across China. In fact, for sports like football and baseball, the arena has to be specifically built, which is why they cannot exactly share venues with other events. Equestrian is held in Hong Kong. Volleyball, even beach volleyball, is held indoors.

The most notable structures specifically built for the 2008 Games are the National Stadium (a.k.a. the Bird's Nest) and the Water Cube (you can do an image search for it - it looks quite striking at night).
