  1. If you are thinking of house flies, you are right. Many fly fishing "flies" look like caddis flies or mayflies, which aren't flies at all, but other species of insect.

  2. Fly fishing is a method of fishing.  It means you are fishing with artificial flies, usually made of bits of fur and feather.

Spin fishing means you are using a spinning lure, like a Panther Martin.

Bait fishing means you are using some kind of food... salmon egs, worms, power bait.

All three kinds of fishing can be a way to catch a trout, a bass, a bone fish or just about any other species of fish.

  3. I might be wrong, but I believe the 'Flies' used in fishing are actually made up with, what looks like, feathers.

  4. Actually, most "flies" are suppose to mimic a "hatch" of various different insect's.

The story goes, in the late 1800's, when the "sport" of fishing & "Fly-Fishing" began , they didn't have a wide variety of "material" to make there "flies" , (various animal hair & bird feather's, colored yarn),  from , so some outdoor newspaper/magazine journelist ,(can't think of his name) , told his reader's that the "darkest" hackle was the best material for most  fishing situation's, (apparently, he had a "banner" day fishing for trout with an ugly "black" "fly"). His way of "thinking" got around & the nickname "Fly-Fishing" stuck!

(Then again, I could of made all that up!)

LOL (I honestly think it was Royalty in England who quoted the name ,"fly-fishing".)

Does it matter that much? I just wish I was out there right now "catching" them & not "talkin" bout it! lol
