  1. A lightening strike heats up the air around it and sends the air wooshing off at incredible speeds, which you hear as thunder. Thunder is not dangerous, it is just a noise. Lightning, however, is as hot as the surface of the sun and can kill... so go indoors if you get caught in a storm!

  2. It is not that the lightning hits an object, but rather the lightning is extremely hot (up to 54,000 degrees F!!!!!!). This causes the air to expand, and then very quickly contract which produces the sound waves we hear as thunder.

  3. the lightning is breaking the sound barrier and is creating a sonic boom

  4. the lightning breaks the sound barrier

    and hey, minnesota?

    me too lol.

  5. lightning comes from positive and negative charges in clouds, the lightning hits an object, and that is where the sound comes from. kind of like an explosion.

  6. It is caused by lightning.

The sound of the lightning moving through the air forms a mini-sonic boom, since the electricity in the lightning travels faster than the speed of sound.

  7. Thunder comes from the sky when you see the clouds went dim. Then, after thunder has shown from the sky, in a few seconds,  it make a sound
