Where does wind come from?

Wind is the result of an air pressure difference between two areas.  The unequal absorption of the Sun's rays and difference in heating from that absorption causes surface pressures to vary across the Earth.  Wind is simply the way nature tries to restore a balance, by moving air from areas of higher pressure to areas of lower pressure.

    heat causes expansion and contraction so heat will move to cold. the same principal applies to earth, when the sun heats a portion of air. the wind will thus move in the direction of the cold.  thats why we have cold fronts and warm fronts its the air pushing itself. when a gas is heated it expands. when cooled it contracts

    here is something you can try to illustrate what I am saying.

    Blow up a balloon and tie it closed. place it in the freezer overnight. this is a scaled down version of what we are talking about.
