Is it possible for not us citizen?

We'd like to get married without all the relatives and party fuss, Vegas seems a great option (so we can combine wedding and honey moon together;-) ). We are both not american citizens nor we live in the US.

  1. The advantage of Las Vegas was that you could apply for a license and marry the same day. There are several states that do that now, Arizona comes to mind.  You can get married and go look at the Grand Canyon, which is actually a very popular honeymoon spot.

  2. Of *course* you can get married in the US if you are not a citizen. (I'm a marriage officiant). Marriage laws vary state by state regarding the application process (the age requirements, the ID requirements, and the waiting period) but anyone can be married legally in the US if you follow the rules of the state.

I have listed the requirements for each state, below.  You may need to check with your own consulate to see if you need an extended marriage certificate (or 'apostille') to register your marriage at home, depending upon whether your country signed the Hague Convention.  See the second link with a wikipedia article for various countries, and age regulations.

As for a location, check "destination weddings" in a search engine - then you can choose the beach, the mountains, NY or Chicago or New Orleans, etc. - as you desire.  Good luck.

  3. if you are military, you can go to any justice of the peace, and get a marriage lisence and get married that same day.

  4. can't get married in the US unless you are a citizen, or getting married to one.

  5. You can get married here but you might need special papers for your country stating that you are legally married.  Or call your authorities where you live.

I'd find a place in Vegas, call them & let them help walk you through the process.

    Have fun & congratulations!

What you want to be aware of is the 'waiting period'.  Some states - such as Nevada and Virginia do not have a waiting period between when you can get a license and have the ceremony.  A state - such as New York - has a 24hr waiting period.  Some states I have seen have up to 3 day waiting periods.

This might sway where you want to go to get married because you would have to hang around to compensate for any waiting periods.

  7. Any reason why you can't get married in your own country?!

Las Vegas is nice - get the minister with the Elvis look and wardrobe to marry you!
