Where exactly is the Hubble Telescope?

Is it just floating around 50 bizillion miles in space?

Like what galaxies is it looking at?

How far away is it?

Just help me understand it more?

  1. it's a telesscope in space. they take pictures of all sorts of cool stuff with it.

    it's above teh atmosphere, so it can take really sharp pictures.


  2. It is in a low orbit around the Earth, fairly close to the Earth's equator, roughly 500 km. above the Earth's surface.

    Galaxies are visible from everywhere, including the surface of the Earth, provided you're in an area with little light pollution. Half a dozen galaxies can be seen with the naked eye; thousands more with a small telescope.

    MUFC... The same way we on Earth can get up close pictures of objects in the sky...with the magnifying effect of a telescope....ya know...ya see things a lot closer with a telescope.

    We can also get very nice pics of far far galaxies right here in our own back yards with a decent telescope that has tracking capability....and a camera.  

    The more time a camera shutter is open...the more light it gathers...so objects will show up a lot better.

  5. The hubble is 560.8 kilometers up, travels a complete orbit in 97 minutes, and is the size of a school bus.  It takes pictures of space of whatever point in orbit it is and travels around earth 5 miles per second.

  6. It is orbiting the Earth about 500 miles up. The only reason to put it in space is to get it above the atmosphere. That way there are no clouds and no blurring effects that the atmosphere causes for all telescopes on the ground. The same effect is what make the stars twinkle. Stars seen from space never twinkle.
