Question:

Where have all the grasshoppers gone?

We've seen the plight of frogs (UV rays), and bees (cell phone towers, etc.) all over the internet and media... but, besides all the obvious wildlife being run-over by cars everyday and night, and the suburban landscape taking habitat away from others... what about simple grasshoppers?

(they have no Lobby, I know, I know..)

  1. Al Gore has eaten them all.

  2. Great question they have gone 2 Plainfield , IL..they are still aroung not so much in the city tho....

  3. I have noticed this too, along with crickets, toads, prayer mantis & garden snakes. There were tons of them in this area when I was growing up, now at 50, I rarely see any of them. Probably because everyone around me gets their lawns chemically treated.

  4. well when it comes to grasshoppers people think of it as a delicasie to eat it fried or in chocolate, me personally haven't tasted it yet and i dont think i will either....there is so many other things to eat. Oh and if you really want to see giant grasshoppers all around you should visit belize, their rainforest is awesome!

  5. Toads, Bullfrogs, crickets, Katydids and grasshoppers all

were thick until a few years ago. Egrets were thick as well.

Egrets follow livestock and feed on the insects that move

out of the way. Long legs and neck allowed them to stand

in shallow water and gorge themselves on tadpoles. Frogs

were already doing poorly in pounds that had no shade

from the sun. Katydids are tree dwellers so its not clear

how much impact egrets had on them. The egrets were

only here 3 to 5 years and now that there gone so is just

about every thing else. Clement change-looks like it.

  6. They are a destructive species. They have wiped out entire crops in the past. They don't need any help.

  7. They are in my back yard here in Louisiana.  We have a symphony every night.

  8. LOL they're all in Lake County, FL. Think I'm kidding? Come over here and look around.

  9. They have all been replaced by cockroaches, ask the cockroach experts

  10. in my backyard..
