Where have the sparrows gone? few years back they were as common as the pigeons?

its bcoz in mumbai as in everywhere else the surroundings are too modernized and their habitats are being destroyed.and they dont have any food as sparrows thrive on insects and seeds etc,also no one allows them to nest in their homes which is also a reason,i myself feed nearly 15 aparrows everyday which come to my home many times a day to eat rice .before this they almost dissappeared from our locality,but now there are nearly 25 of them!!1

I think they're all in my garden!

I'm in the UK and we have millions of them, I put seed out for them every morning and they always watch me from the trees, and as soon as I start walking away from the bird table they're on it eating.

Sparrows are there everywhere wherever some greenery is existing even in your city Mumbai. Sparrows are not available in extremely cold places.

1.nowadays we don't have ventilatin windows in our flats,houses,multistoried buildings to accommodate AC m/cs.

2.We regularly clean our dustbins to corporation scavengers.we don't throw food particles here and there.

3.Trees are almost eliminated in township areas.

Here in the U.K. there has been quite a disturbing decline in the House Sparrow population in most area's,even in the countryside this is mainly due to loss of habitat in the towns and loss of food sources.

The erection of new houses do not allow the nesting of the Sparrows, as eaves are sealed during construction.

In the countryside this has been put down to the methods of harvesting in days gone by the harvesters left the waste on the field  now as soon as crops are harvested the land is immediately ploughed over thus burying the waste seed.

Thus there is no food supply for countless other birds,
