I am writing a story about travelling around the world called around and about. The trouble is me only being 13 i have never travalled the world. So i need some experiences and descriptions of people you met. Whether you went alone of with someone. Please don't tell me that i shouldn't be writing about something i don't know about though. I know that but i like the adventure.

  1. Ireland, Portugal, Turkey, Kefalonia (Greece ) Majorca, Paris, Gibraltar, Malta, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Dubai, Egypt.

People are basically the same wherever you go, some good, and some bad. The nicest people I have met so far, are the Irish, the worst are Portugese (especially the Women ) But you know what? Theres no place like home, it's nice to visit, but nice to come home to my gorgeous little Cornish village.

  2. As it's a story, it doesn't matter if you make it up - It's called 'fiction'.

You can get a fair idea of what places are like by reading about them and looking at pictures. As for the people, invent the characters and make them as interesting as you want.

  3. Egypt

  4. my family and I have been around the world several times now (I think this is our 4th or 5th time around.)

How you ask?  We have both graduated college, gotten masters degrees (MA TESL and MA ED Technology) and we have gone to 4 countries outside of the US to teach english.  These weren't just vacations.  Vacations to places are only superficial it only allows you to see what those places want you to see.. we have lived in those places with the locals...

I've been to central and southern China (central china is dirty, polluted, and exceptionally poor)

Tokyo (amazingly high tech, but exceptionally expensive)

Korea( a mix of tokyo japan and china.. some things are very high tech and nice, and others are very dirty and old.)

And Now the United Arab Emirates.  (just like the US.. all the comforts of the US except it is muslim nation, and most women wear the black robes and head scarves... (that takes getting used to)

We have chosen to raise our children while traveling and working around the world to let our children realize how special being an american is.  To let them come to realize just how good we amerians have it. And to help them realize they belong to the world, not just a nation.

  5. austria-dont go there. the food is disgusting.

  6. I could tell you where I've been, but this would be of no more actual help to you than the above answers.

Instead I have another idea: You start writing your story and then you send your works to me. I could then comment on it. I think this would be more useful to you.

I've done this before for friends who wrote fanfiction. I also know a ton about travel, since I've been all over Europe and the Middle East since I was 12. First with my parents and then on my own. I love to read and am always willing to help a young writer grow. :-)

You can email me through my profile.

  7. It would take a bit more space than there is here to describe the places I've been. But I will say I found all of them interesting, even if some were really horrible !!

I would advise you to watch any Michael Palin documentary you can get your hands on. He is, in my opinion, accurate and interesting in what he presents - and he has been EVERYWHERE !!

  8. i'ved lived in philipines

  9. No, I've never been to Spain...but I kinda like the music...

    That's a Waylon Jennings song...

I've been to Tijuana MEX and Niagara Falls CAN...

    Not exactly abroad.

Have you ever seen Around the World in 80 Days?

You are going to have to draw from movies, music, and google a lot.

If I were pretending, I'd take it from the stand point of a musician (which I am). I'd visit England and the music studio where The Beatles Recorded...Abbey Road. I'd visit Paris and the Eiffel Tower. I'd listen to strolling violinists. I'd visit Venice, Italy and sing along with the gondolier driver...Oh Solo me Oh ...what ever...

Have a spin....I just gave you places to look up and a spin of events.

  10. I went to Japan on a school trip in October.

Japan is an amazing country, with a real contrast of old and new, what with the temples of kyoto and the skyscrapers of Tokyo. It is so high - tech and modern!!

The people there are so kind, welcoming and curious to know everything about you. They all stop to have their photos taken with you, cos we look so different to them.

I think Japan would be a really great country to write about - theres loads about it on the web.

    Good luck!

  11. Bahamas: Lots of black people, extremely friendly, the market people are rude though. They speak a dialect of english that I couldn't even understand! Really friendly though, they say good morning to strangers on the bus...really nice.

Brazil: Party, no-stress, and have fun! People would get wasted the night before work! They love going to the beach, staying around family, going to night shows. The only problem is some of the poverty and "fake" beggers but otherwise, their very nice. In the North East of Brazil at least...I don't know about the South.

Turkey: If you have a friend that has relatives, then you'll find very friendly people. If you just go up to random people, they might be a little rude. Lot of people smoke there, a lot of them smoke. Almost everyone drinks at least one cup of tea a day. Crowded cities, terrible traffic lol.

Italy: Oh my God, very very friendly. If you make one friend, they'll introduce you to their other friends. They love the finer things in life, good people. Bad traffic though.

Good luck...I would say more but I don't have enough time, sorry

  12. Good for you for being an adventurous writer.

I've been abroad many times to France, since I was around 4.

I've been going to France twice a year since I was 4 and I am now 17.

    Descriptions of French people:

    * Protective of their country.

    * Friendly and willing to stop for a chat.

    * Fit & Healthy - A lot use cycle lanes and walk/run a lot.

    * Quite tight with money. They'll look for cheap alternatives.

I've obviously being going with my family, in 2007 me and my boyfriend went to France together, that was my first holiday away without the parents - besides school trips, and from my perspective I was seeing things differently, I realised the French didn't seem to like the idea of a boy & girl going on holiday so young together, we both noticed the French people looked down at us - thought they were better. I'm not saying all of them did that, just the vast majority.

  13. France, Belgium, Holland, Spain, Germany, Norway, Italy, Ireland, Malta, Oman, UAE, Bahrain, USA.

  14. This is going to be long but its worth it.  When I was 16 I went with a group of nurses to El Salvador.  We would sleep in the city (in a church, on floor mats) at night and every evening the church workers brought fast food for us for dinner; usually chicken.  Every night it rained non-stop but by morning and throughout the day the skies were completely blue and free of clouds. Then in the morning we'd get up and drive an hour or so on messy dirt roads.  The scenery was beautiful - volcanoes, lots and lots of green, guys climbing banana trees to cut down the bunches.

When we got to our destination we'd set up a mini clinic.  The towns were small.  They had very skinny stray dogs walking around looking for someone to feed them.  As soon as we arrived word spread like wild fire.  People were walking miles to come see our nurses.  They would say they had tons of symptoms even when they didn't because they needed the medicine for when they did have that problem and no nurses were around to help.

We saw tragic things.  There was one woman who had a 5 year old child that was obviously dying.  He couldn't sit up, couldn't feed himself, couldn't do anything.  When he was born he had encephalitis (water head) and the fluid on his brain damaged his brain.  She begged us to bring him to the US for an operation to fix it but the damage had already been done and nothing could fix it.  There was another woman who had skin cancer.  In our little clinic we didn't have the technology to deal with cancer.  We gave her all of the aspirin we could to hopefully ease the pain of dying.

We did this everyday.  We went to different towns throughout the countryside.  We ran out of medicine.  When we returned home it completely changed my outlook.  It's amazing how fortunate we are.  I had a hard time feeling bad for homeless people in the US for a long time because even those without homes here are still so much better off than people around the world.

If you ever get a chance to travel to a location that is not tourist filled - do it.  Tourist locations are fun but nothing like traveling to see how others really live.  If you would like I can e-mail you a couple pictures of my time there.  I have a really great picture of a group of kids.

  15. then how can that be a real book..i've been to mexico if you care

  16. Better to read some books and make it up yourself based on the characters you read about and the traditions you learn about the countries.

ie it could be a typical hamburger eating American who's never been abroad travelling with their family to India, their organised tour bus breaks down in a remote Indian village....etc etc etc  and you're off.

    Good luck
