When traveling we stopped to eat at a little restaurant beside the road in White Sulpher Springs , WV. Just looked like a little old restaurant that had been there for years. The food was absolutely great! We had pizza and it was made from scratch , yummmmmm. We have made it a point to go back there and eat when we are in that area. Sometimes just out of the blue I crave a pizza from April's ....

  1. Clyde's -- it's an expensive franchise and looks nice, but the food has been terrible every time.

Chipotle -- it's a cheap franchise and looks like a dive, but the food has been great every time.

  2. My husband and I were traveling through rural Iowa (don't ask why) and we stopped by a place I'd never been to, but heard about.  I thought it was going to be a real hole.  Turns out they actually served a great lunch, and my hubby had never even heard of a giant breaded pork tenderloin sandwich so he had one and LOVED it.  Since I used to cook for a living, he still wants me to make him one of those someday.

  3. well i can't remember any places because most of our road trips were when I was under 8 years old ... but I'd have to go with this ice cream parlor in Branson, Missouri ... they have the best ice cream and you get to eat it out on the sidewalk with a view of that small, bustling little city ...

  4. Found a diner in NJ, but that was over 30 years ago.  Then on a trip in KY, Hardee's, KFC, McDonald's, every one like those were so bad --- not that they're so good anyway, that they were a surprise.  So we went to a brand new chain on opening day.  Our hamburgers were served still frozen in the middle.  Then we went to a 'nice' restaurant and were served swill.  My kids said that KY was a nice place to visit, but don't eat the food.  The best good surprise in recent years is a Love's convenience store that serves subs.  They're great.

  5. If you really want good pizza, go to Ray's in Brooklyn NY!  If you thought April's was good, you'll faint when you eat this stuff!!!  Happy Motoring!

  6. This is not surprising, but I recently went to Hunter's Head Tavern in Upperville, VA. What a treat! Organic, delicious shepherd's pie. A varied, interesting selection. Very delightful. Reasonable entrees($10-$15 ish). Colonial charm. Five stars in my book.

  7. I dont think I will ever eat there being in Scotland its a bit too far to go for a pizza but I know what you mean and its nice to fine somewhere that doesnt cost too much money to eat and the food is good have a Good New Year.
