  1. I volunteered for Heartland Hospice for 4+ years... I was giving the names of Terminally Ill patients in Nursing homes.. I would visit them and talk with them and try to Cheer them up... I would read to them if they wanted, or talk, or sing or whatever it was they needed/wanted that day...

a few years before that I volunteered for The Missouri Wildlife Rescue Center (another 4+ years).. The Center and its Volunteers would Nurse injured or Orphaned animals back to health and then release them back into the wild..

One was working with sick people and the other sick animals... both were rewarding!

  2. Dogwood Festival in Atlanta Ga. I helpd sell beer when I had wanted to work with the dogwood trees in wrapping them for the public to purchase. Plus,. it was freezing and I made the mistake of wearing short shorts... :-) But I had fun

  3. Over the years I have worked (voluntary) as a hospital worker, bingo caller at the local drop-in centre and soon to be classroom assistant.

    Benefits:

You are doing good for the community.

You get to meet different people and improve your social life.

It looks good on your CV and might give you the edge when applying for a job.

    Lessons:

Old people take bingo REALLY SERIOUSLY - I nearly had a cat-fight on my hands once when I let one old dear have her winnings even though she forgot to shout house!!  - the others never let me hear the last of it (I ended up paying her out of my own pocket!!)
