You can deposit  any amount in banks for any period say one year or more, but you can not draw any amount .One can get a good % of interest in  mutual fund

It varies on the type of funds which you are targetting at.  The best solution is to track the history of funds that you are looking for and then arrive at a conclusion by yourself.

Historical data for all the funds is available from the AMFI India website.

the absolute king of mutual fund data is Morningstar.

as far as MF investor behavior...that's a behavioral finance type issue, and so you'd probalby only find info like that in academic journals (if at all).  you should be more specific as to exactly what it is you're looking for.  otherwise we're just guessing blindly.

but in general, morningstar is THE authority on researching mutual funds.
