How much money do you have?  What kind of climate do you prefer?  What kind of lifestyle do you want? All the big cities have beautiful suburbs.

I'll speak for Melbourne (the second biggest city after Sydney).  The best suberbs are Toorak, Brighton, Canterbury, Hawthorn, Camberwell, South Yarra, Malvern, Armidale, East Melbourne amongst others.  Melbourne is quite a cultural city, is considered to be the most European of Australia's cities, is the sporting, fashion, and food capital of Australia and has hot Summers and cool Winters.
