  1. what is your budget, what are your requirements?

Every city in australia has its nice and expensive parts and its cheap and nasty parts. I guess the challenge is finding the cheaper and still nice parts.

  2. I went to OZ last year and spent 3 months there with my cousin who emigrated in 1971. The only places I got to were Sydney, Canberra, (where my cousin lives) a place called Gorokan, north of Sydney, Batemans Bay, Eden, Beechworth, (Ned Kelly country) and a delightful place called Bermaguie. Obviously I passed through loads of other places but their names escape me. It's a huge place, but I particularly liked Canberra. In any case, wherever you decide to go, it has to be better than the UK as things are at the moment. Good luck to you.

  3. I live in Aus. It depends on what you are looking for. Australia is a huge place! You can go from one extreme to another. Like if you like hot weather - head further north like Queensland and if you like it cooler head south to Tasmania. But then do you want to be at a beach, or in the mountains, in the city or in the country. Ive been to almost every capital city and i really love Melbourne the most! Its fantasic.

Personally i think Victoria is the best or Queensland.

  4. Well i live in Victoria and i think it is beautiful..I have the beach at my front door but only 45 minute drive away i can do Four wheel driving in the country...

We have 6 states in Australia:Victoria(Melbourne)

                                                        New South Wales(Sydney)

                                                       South Australia(Adelaide)

                                                       Western Australia(Perth)

                                                       Queensland(Brisbane)

    And a Territory.                        Northern Territory(Darwin)....

Each state has their own little things that make them known, here in Victoria we have The Great Ocean Road(scenic drive that lasts hours)...

We have Puffing Billy..Heasville Sanctary...Werribee Open range Zoo..Melbourne Zoo..Hundreds of beaches to visit and even more bushland that you can camp in,go fishing, have a camp fire...

There are 100's of tourist attractions all over melbourne and sorounding suburbs....

  5. The nearest "nice place" to Australia  is New Zealand

  6. if you are looking for a nice, relaxed, social, by the beach place to live then i definatley suggest the Gold Coast in Queensland.

It has everything you could need!

  7. Everyone is biased towards their own home and so they should be.

All states and cities have good areas and bad areas. There are too many factors to counter in.

    - Income

    - Family vs Single

    - Weather preferance

    - Work

    - Public transport or Private

    - City or Country or in between

    - Schools/Uni's

    - Employment opportunities

I can tell you about where I live but it doesnt mean its suited to you.

I live in Shellharbour the second biggest city (though steadily growing to be the same size) only to Wollongong in the Illawarra region, 1 - 1.5 hours south of Sydney in New South Wales. Wollongong is the second biggest city in NSW after Sydney.

I love it here, I was born and bred in Wollongong and wouldnt consider leaving. We're close enough to the city yet far enough away at the same time. Prices are slightly cheaper then the city. People arent as stress or fast paced and the lifestyle is relaxed and casual.

Shellharbour is a seaside town that is absolutly gorgeous to live in. Views of the ocean and gentle ocean breezes.

There is substantial employment in the Illawarra which was originally based around the steelworks, so plenty of labouring work for the guys. There too is lots of business, specialist, hospitality and retail work as you find in any decent sized city.

Plenty of weekend leisure activites, sports, fishing, walking, entertainment, you name it, we got it.

Property prices arent cheap as alot of people that work in Sydney reside in the Illawarra. The northern suburbs are more expensive then the southern and most are older. For a nice house your looking at $300,000 for a basic in a decent lower middle class suburb up to $2mill for the poshiest house in the poshest part of town in the northern burbs. $400,000 - $600,000 should make most people happy.

Right now you're freaking out over the prices I'm sure, but be aware the average income in Australia is $60,000 per year.

There are plenty of schools both public and private some with better reputations then others, its all about researching and knowing you're area.

As will everywhere in the world, there are bad areas full of crime and drugs and good areas safe for families and fun.

The weather is most stable in NSW, its comfortable all year round, no tropical weather or extremes. Winter is usually in the teens and summer 20Cs - early 30Cs. Heat waves and bush fires arent common in this area though there is an occasional cold shift from the ocean.
