  1. I live in Sydney but am from Newcastle/Hunter Valley originally - all I can say is avoid Sydney...... unless you like big crowds, traffic jams and paying a fortune in rent LOL.

If i was 18 again I 'd be looking to QLD.

  2. the big cities are popular, I especially like Sydney but seeing as you are from a city may I suggest something smaller?

I come from a little place in NSW but on a regular basis catch Vline to Shepparton in victoria, the bullion bar in Shep is a great place for clubbing but upstairs doesn't open till 10 or 11 pm, dowstairs they've made into a restaurant and bar.

Shepparton also has a performing arts centre where the local orchestra performs, they also have shows and plays on there on a regular basis.

there is also a bumper shopping district, not as big as the major cities but still a lot of shops all the same, look at all my links there is heaps of info there.

  3. Sydney, although expensive but heaps of great places to go, lost of clubs and if your into alternative things you could go to Newtown(which is a suburb by the way) that is where all the hippies are and it's actually a nice place.

Or you go to Melbourne I hear it's a great city.

  4. Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Byron Bay.  If you have any friends living in these places, it might help sway you in one direction or another.  Good luck with the big move, enjoy your new life on the east coast.

  5. MELBOURNE

  6. I live in nsw and 18.i would love to move to melbourne.

  7. I love queensland, i live here through my life.. has a beautifull tropicall weather.

  8. GET OUT OF AUSTRALIA !

I live in Melbourne and it sucks

    So does Sydney

  9. Well naturally everyone will state their capital city. I for one have been to a few places, but would recommend Sydney only because its very diverse when it comes to lifestyle and jobs on offer.

However try to save up enough to diversify even more, and travel abroad ultimately. I been doing alot of travelling since age 19. And its a fantastic way of learning where you best stand in the world.

I been to Spain, Italy, Japan, USA and many parts of Latin America. If your not too fussed about roughing it out in Sydney, its a perfect platform to getting further along in whatever plans you got.

The reason you may have to rough it out at 1st is because rent is very expensive. It took me till age 23 to buy my own place and even now that its been a few years and some overseas trips under my belt, I still got alot owing on the place. Of course you can always share accomodation costs with other people. I live near the beach, so usually I got siblings wanting to use my place to stay over when their in the neighbourhood. I can't complain either because I got a 3 bedroom to myself. But yeh Sydneys cool and very cosmopolitan.

  10. MELBOURNE FOR SURE

we have the best bars, clubs, musicians, BOYS !

    everything :)

  11. Well i am 18 and live in Brisbane, and love it. but you could always try Cairns

  12. melbourne, without a doubt

  13. Like many above posters have said... Melbourne. I live in Melbourne. The upside is the city life. Lots of music and live entertainments... and shopping. Who doesn't like shopping?

The bad side to Melbourne is the weather. The motto here is "If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes" :)

Summer is incredibly hot and winter is very windy. Bad water restrictions too. Beaches are grotty as well. Water is practically green. But nevermind! There are plenty of pools for summer.

Helping you sort through the harsh realities of Melbourne =]

Good luck in finding your change!!

  14. I would say Melbourne or Brisbane.

They both have alot of appeal.

I'm from brisbane so i kinda biased but its a nice place to live and there is heaps of public transport around. You should check it out

  15. Either Melbourne, or somewhere in Queensland-I love Queensland

  16. Come to Melbourne. It's amazing.

It gets a bit chilly in winter and is boiling hot in summer but everything else makes it waayy better than any other cities.

Also its handy having some amazing beaches nearby - the bellarine peninsula has anglesea, lorne, torquay, bells.... and then the mornington peninsula has sorrento, blairgowrie, portsea, gunnamatta.....

There are heaps of things that happen in Melb sport wise - cricket rugby football soccer just to name a few.

Melb has some amazing music if you know where to look, especially around the city and inner suburbs.

It also has some pretty good clubs :) Prince, Se7en, Valve...

The shopping is amazing. Without a doubt the best in Aus.

The people here are also pretty cool.

  17. Omg, talk about biased answers.

Any capital city is going to meet your needs, it depends what else you're after.

Sydney have the better weather, not so extreme and not so cold in winter, very simular to perth except we dont get the heat waves like you do.

Melbourne is great if you need public transport, whilst Sydneys transport sucks.

I personally don't see the attractiveness of Brissy or the Gold Coast, GC is great for holidays but thats it in my opinion.

EDIT- Unfortunatly employment is the same all around Australia, if you have hospitality experience and don't mind working in a restaurant or nightclub you should be able to find something.

As you mentioned public transport, this would push me to Melbourne. The arts is also known as being a Melbournian thing, though as I'm sure you know NIDA is in Sydney.

So if you want to be near NIDA choose Sydney, for everything else I'd recommend Melbourne.

  18. Melbourne - it has plenty of music, lots of clubs/bars & plenty of great places to eat ... not to mention lots to do and see.

  19. Go for BRISBANE its a booming city with a great vibe about the place you will really enjoyment.

  20. haa haa yea mel very bias including your self lol, but any capital city is pretty good, but friendly down to earth easy going people live in Queensland the best state of all.

  21. Sydney mate!

    Got everything here!!!
