Currently I am located in Calgary and will be traveling there in November, I called around and was pretty much told that you can't buy Vietnamese currency here.

  1. y the h**l u want to exchange in Canada when u can exchange in VN??

  2. Chinatown currency exchanges.

  3. Go to the airport and ask one of the staff members. Every airport should have a currency exchanging process since you'd be traveling around the world.

  4. Vietnam Dong is a closed currency, you cant buy it anywhere other than in Vietnam, there are plenty of exchanges when you leave the airport, its also a good idea to have some us dollars, which is a second currency here.

  5. Take your CAD to VN and exchange when you arrive there.  A better rate and don't think you can find Dong anywhere but in Vietnam.  Good luck and have a great trip.  Cheers C

  6. Check the Calgary airport currency exchange counter. I know that the Vancouver airport has an exchange kiosk that does Vietnamese money, among many other currencies. If you're flying to Vietnam, you will probably be changing planes in Vancouver anyway.

  7. You'll get the BEST deal when you're in VN.. don't exchange it in  VND... oh .. I think it's BEST if you exchange CAD to USD first.. you'll get more that way..

  8. all the hotels change foreign currency to dong as it is not widely available outside vietnam.  there are money exchanger in airport too... but the rate is not as good.  if not you can prepare some USD too

my suggestion would be to change a little bit at the airport for your taxi fare and the rest you can change it in hotel or other foreign exchange shop in the city... dont worry.

  9. It's a good idea to change your Canadian dollars to American dollars before you go, American dollars are accepted almost everywhere, and both the Hanoi and HCMC airports have currency exchange booths, and the exchange rates aren't bad. Vietnamese Dong is considered a "soft" currency, so don't leave Vietnam without changing Dong back to dollars as it's easy to change once you return home.
