regarding your question, you should be more specific on your needs.

for example what are you studying? what are you looking for?

I think anywhere in china is fine, including the western parts, unless you want a more urban area.

if you want to study chinese, go to beijing, because in shanghai you might find yourself speaking english too much...unless thats what you want.

Dude, don't study in China, it's the worst place ever, they don't even have 7-11's in China. I know because I live here, I used to live in Hong Kong SAR (HK is not really part of China) Hong Kong is a lot better than China, you should try going to Hong Kong.

You should try Beijing or Hong Kong.  Hongkong is now part of China.
