Where in Costa Rica should I travel to?

I am a college student and I want to go to Costa Rica with a few friends in May after school is out. What is the best area to go to for great beaches, tourism, and nightlife? And what does it mean when websites refer to a hotel being on the Northern Beaches?

The WHOLE Costa Rican Pacific Cost, that is the best choice!!!

Northern Beaches might refer to the pacific north beaches. Those places are extremely expensive!!! I'll say that if you don't want to spend a lot of money the center/south pacific cost would be fine

I own a few rental properties in Costa RIca.My favorite town is Playa del Coco for the nightlife and yet quiet beach.

Tamarindo is a lot of fun also but the water is poluted (but clean to the naked eye).I love the bars in Tamarindo but if you search Tamarindo online you will see the many problems they have with e coli virus in the beachwater.The government has informed local officials but they dont do much about it because it would kill the tourism which is 95% of the income in Tamarindo.

Any other questions feel free to ask.I was a first time traveler to costa rica once and I remember appreciating any info i could get back then and even to this day.

The beaches in Guanacaste would be known as the "Northern Beaches" This area is relatively dry compared to the rest of the country, and the southern pacific beaches. May is still a good month for traveling almost anywhere in the country, despite the beginning of "rainy season". If it does rain it is usually in the afternoon after 3pm or so.

I like Mal Pais and Santa Teresa. They have good vibes and nice surf. Montezuma is also a cool place to hang out.

Tamarindo is the "Hot Spot" for north American tourism and this area is going to have the most beach resorts and all-inclusive type places.
