  1. At the airport they rent and sell SIMM cards and Handi's as you are leaving customs and after your luggage but before you leave the terminal.

You can also get them at a Markt Center like a pre paid trac phone we use in the USA.

If you like using your own phone then the SIMM is the best option.

  2. Disposable cellphones aren't available in Germany, but if you have an unlocked one with you which is tri- or quadband, you can buy SIM cards at almost any electronics store. These SIMs cost around 10 or 20 euros, of which you'll have 5 or 10 to "phone off", and you can load them up at almost any supermarket.

There are basically two main mobile service providers in Germany, T-Mobile and Vodafone. Besides, there are e-plus and O2, and several resellers. I would go with Vodafone, as they offer the best international rates and have good network coverage within Germany.

Mind that with your new SIM, you'll have a German phone number. People calling you will have to dial the country code (+49) first. One advantage to you: There is no such thing like "air time" in Germany (unless you use mobile internet services); the mobile phone system works on a "caller pays all" basis.

  3. You would probably rather buy a cheap sim phone for like 30 Euros. Get one that is unlocked. If you get an unlocked phone, you can buy a sim card from what ever country your in and use your phone. A.K.A. You can use your phone anywhere in the world! If you visiting thats fine, you can take the phone back to your home country, get a sim for it, and use it there as well.
