Is it close to a major city, or is it perhaps in the Black Forest?

Any information would be helpful, as I have always wanted to visit this gasthaus.

  1. i unfortunately havent seen the movie, but try to find it with the german version of google (www.google.de) and youll find a couple of hotels and restaurants with that name, most have pictures on their homepages, maybe this way youll find the one youre looking for just enter it exactly like this:

    "gasthaus waldesruh"

    (include the " " )

    good luck :)

  2. The film was partly done in studios in Munich. I have seen the film and I expect the Gasthaus to be around Munich. This style is dominant in the area around the alp mountains. You would not have to look specifically for this one, you will find hundreds in this style around Munich. The houses are typically build around 100 to 300 years ago. Go to google and pictures and put in "bayern gasthaus", on the first 10 pages you find very similar houses.

(I could not find any hint on the internet but there is as pecial dvd with "making of" which should include this information)

  3. It is certainly far away from Berlin, much unlike the film's plot implies. I would imagine that it was most likely filmed in Southern Bavaria, or possibly even in Austria. You'll find that kind of architecture around the cities of Passau, Freyung, and that general area of Germany. If not, you may need to move further south toward the Bavarian lakes, or even into Austria (especially Salzburg area). Good luck!
