Where in Latin America should I go?

I'm going on a student exchange trip for a semester and I simply can't decide which country to choose. There are my choices:

Costa Rica (I've heard it's a beautiful country, but I also heard it's really Americanized)

Honduras (I've been here once and I might be able to visit some friends if I went here on exchange, but on the other hand I'd like to go to a new country)

Panama (I heard it's also really Americanized, but don't know much else)

Paraguay (I'd like to go somewhere in South America, but...well this will sound strange, but my main problem with this country is that it's landlocked which makes me feel claustrophobic...weird I know)

Please Help!!!

  1. what about Argentina or Chile, if you want to go to South America there you have the most southern countryes and there are beautiful.

But you have to know that Argetina is not only Buenos Aires and Santiago is not ony Chile.

  2. I have been in Costa Rica by a month and she cannot be be better experience for my is the best option has better beaches and she adjusts better for the Americans and European (Paraguay for example does not have them)

the others countries  I cannot say but I have enough information

Traveling in Costa Rica is a joyful, safe experience, compounded by warm, friendly people and a stable democracy.

December to May is the dry season.

There is a slight chance of a late afternoon shower in this season . Temperatures are in the 70's in the San Jose central valley region, and low 80's and more humid at the coasts. The mountain areas are quite cool and temperatures go down to the 50's and 60's at night.

From May to late Nov. it rains everyday, making everything green and lush. The busiest time of the year for travel is the dry season. Some people take advantage of off season for lower rates.

NOTE: Costa rican  nickname Ticos" has own motto said : Pura Vida..!!

  3. I vote for Costa Rica.  There are parts of Costa Rica that are Americanized, and there are parts that are not.  Avoid major tourist locations and you should be fine.  The country is very beautiful, it is fairly safe from violent crime, and the people are amazing.  Even in the tourist areas, not everyone speaks English, but it's nice to know you can get a Diet Coke pretty much anywhere, you know what I mean?

  4. There are many countries that have been influenced heavliy and thus become Americanised.

Why don't you try other countries like Ecuador or Colombia?

While Ecuador is a 'cosy' place to stay, the fact that their currency has changed from the Sucre to the US Dollar has made thousands of US pensioners retire there.

However, Colombia is still rather 'virgin'. If you want to study Spanish Cali and Bogota would be your best choices - Bogota is a much more metropolitan city so to speak. Bogota this year is the World's Book Capital and is currenty having a Book Fair, so it  is a very cultural city along other examples.

Ask around, things have changed a great deal in Colombia.

I live here so I know.

  5. I would vote Brazil.... the heck with spanish countries... you will be listening to Portuguese language, wich sounds better, besides the girls...way more beautifull...haha... no ofense my friends... I also do speak spanish

  6. Any would be a good choice, but I'd lean towards Honduras especially if you didn't get to see the Maya ruins at Copan on your last visit--they are awesome.  Maybe you could go there with your friends.  Also if you spend any time in the town of Copan Ruinas, see if anyone can take you the the hot springs.  It's about a twenty minute drive on dirt roads to a spot where hot springs are bubbling up on a hillside and flow down into a cold water stream.  You find where the mixture feels right to you, and then you lay back and relax in the stream.
