I can't find anywhere an energy saving light bulb that will work with my living room dimmer switch. Do they exist? And if so, can you recommend any brands / retailers? I live in London (or can shop online if needs be!)

  1. They do not exist.

  2. Go to Ryness and ask for a "Dimmerable" energy saver lamp. These are relatively new and work with a standard dimmer switch.

  3. I thought this was a joke but reading on I see you're serious. The reason I thought that way is because with them you think you've got them dimmed to start with.

  4. You may have to go with LED lights, as far as I know you can't put CFL's on a dimmer. I did find a bulb that has 3 power sttings, like the old 50,75,100 watt bulbs.

  5. Dimmable low energy bulbs do exist, but you may have to change your light fittings. We just had low energy down-lighters put in our kitchen with a dimmer. The bulbs (11 watts) cost me about £1 more each than the regular low energy ones. I don't have the details as I left that to the  electician - but it is possbile, although it's still quite new. Phone an electrical suppliers!  We are pleased with ours
