  1. My sister who lives near London surfs Ebay for items, and also the garage sales which she says often entire neighborhoods have them yearly, also she hits the thrift second hand stores on the military sectors and private sectors. Sometimes you can go to the weekend flea markets and buy some really excellent items or find them in the classified.

There is also one place I would check into along with ask the people who work there. When I went with her to the garbage recycling section they had a great deal they had pulled out that they said I could have quite possibly if I gave them a pound or two that they probably collected up and took to the flea markets on the weekends locally because they were just going to be disposed of such that it decreased the load of garbage being sent out.  I would ask them because they had some really nice stuff to the side that my sister said do not look at it because I do not want to be tempted because I am trying to get rid of stuff not collect any more.  They had some really great nice old furniture over there to the side and mirrors along with really interesting items so no doubt probably a television turns up occassionally.

Currently locally here in the US in Florida they are throwing out a great many older televisions or donating them to the charities as people are replacing them for digital televisions such that they are going rather low comparatively. But the regular stores have cleared them out in sales awhile back from what I can tell and I want an old small one here in the US because the picture and sound is better than the newer LCD's. The current companies are either not making any small CRT screens or the stores are not stocking them currently which is what I wanted to get in color.

Ebay seems to have a really nice selection of CRT televisions but many are pick up in their region. As anyplace in England can pretty much be traveled to on the train or bus within one days time for pick up this may be something to consider because I have seen some really nice things being sold in the British section of Ebay for a decent price.  But be very careful about being ripped off because a great many people who steal using the internet like to try to phish their way into your accounts such that it is often impossible to get them out of them once you let them in because you answered a bogus email.   Ebay has done little to close up the lack of security in their systems so thieving can be horrible there.   Amazon seems to be much safer but often they have set prices and do not go below those prices. You are welcome to write me if you feel comfortable and I can ask my sister who has lived in England for a long time such that she may know where some of the best places are to get televisions are at. She is pretty busy teaching at a British school as an assistant but I am sure eventually she will get back to write me. She took me out to the flea markets and I got a couple really unique local post cards when we were out which I absolutely love.

Do you have pawn shops in London like we have in the US where people sell off stuff for cash or take it in for a loan which sometimes they cannot repay so the shop get the merchandize to sell off. I get DVD's and games occassionally there for older systems. The stuff goes fast if it is a good price so you have to check regular. I hate to go Pawn shops because they have so much I end up getting stuff that I did not go to buy so just carry what you want to spend and tell yourself no I am not getting anything else.  But I got some really nice DVD's I really enjoyed and games occassionally along with a really good game system cleaning kit which I did not even know existed.

She has two kids and she says the clothing is so difficult to get as the English kid tend to wear school uniforms most of the time along with expensive for her.  With the exchange rate like it is that she looks at all the places to find deals so she probably knows where to look near London because she use to live not too far below it but as parking is such a bear there we took the train or bus in more than once when I visited.
