We are a young family of 4. Right now we live in a prestigious town in NJ. BUT NOBODY wants to talk to you unless they know your street address. Honestly, the first question I get, when I'm at the playground with my kids is WHERE ABOUT DO YOU LIVE? ON WHAT STREET? it's simply getting to be ridiculous, because right now we are renting and once they find out we are renting they turn around and walk away, or pull out their cell phone. They don't even give you a chance!!! I think its very rude!

So, i have been visiting Maine and heard that peolple are very firendly. I would like any recomendation on area to move in to. I just can't afford to put my family in NOT BEIGN ACCEPTED situation again. Any suggestions?

  1. My parents went on vacation there and they said it was great. Good environment, you live near the ocean, small nice state. They said they loved it there.

  2. you definitely want portland or one of the surrounding towns---falmouth/freeport to the north or south portland/scarborough/ saco to teh south......but i still think you're best off in portland--thats where all the transplants move to----you're taking your chances if you go inland(lot of redneck hick mentality)....bedises the coast is SO much nicer....but portland has alot to offer for young families, good schools, parks, beaches, playgrounds, and portland is big enough to draw lots of national acts and shows to town--its recently become a vERY popular relocation place--lots of young people (single and families) and a big mix of people(artists, fishermen, professionals, blue collar, freaks of both the good and bad variety) ---you will find maine to be like night and day compared to NJ
