  1. Get a guide book and read through it for places that look interesting.  I think the Forum is a must do - especially with a tour group, and it's right next to the Coliseum.  The churches are amazing, caesar's death location is also cool.  The *Sistene Chapel* is in Vatican City, so you'll also want to pop into St. Peter's.  There are so many places that you can spend weeks there and still miss things, so get a Fodor's Gold Guide and plan out your days.

  2. Try the Spanish Steps at night.  They're really beautiful and enchanting.  Also, you have to see the Fountain of Triumph, also at night.  It isn't quite the same in the day.  Have fun!!

  3. The Catacombs

  4. If you have time, do the catacombs. There is 1 set underneath a Church that is right at a metro stop, and the other 1 know about is around 2 blocks from the Colsseum. If you are doing Rome on your own instead of a tour group, get there an hour before it opens to get in line for the Vatican.

  5. wow that is amazing im not sure- but i just want to tell you to have fun!!!!

  6. By far the best guide for Rome, which should be more than enuff to answer your question about what to do beside staring at the sinstine chapel and walking around the Coliseum, is by Fonisol (all kinds of interactive maps, sightseeing, hotel info, tour info etc):

They have a weekly blog on Rome events and things to do in Rome also, accessible from the guide.
