Where in Spain has the highest ex-pat population?

Question

I plan to move to Spain this year to launch an English theatre company, but it's success will doubtless be dependent on the saturation of permanant British residents in the vicinity. Any ideas?

Somewhere in the Mediterranean area, the provinces of Alicante, Malaga, and Barcelona are the ones with larger english speaking population, Barcelona or Sitges (35 km from Barcelona ) are a good spot

Fuengirola in Costa del Sol has an English theatre which is very well attended and is often 'sold out' for productions.

Maybe this area could easily support two? Especially if you situate the new one in Benalmadena (Arroyo de Miel) area.

Their are lots of 'the more elderly' ex-pats in this area that love to theatre go and also very willing to assist in these kind of companies voluntarily 'just to be involved'.

The previous answer written by Barmywoman is exactly right in many respects. I am afraid due to standards dropping here with "most" expats coming from the beer and f**s brigade now settling here she is spot on with her observations. Whilst it is not fair to say all the Costas are overrun with these kind of people in the last few years things here have certainly changed for the worse. Northern Costa Blanca fairs a little better than the South, but as a whole the British have ruined Spain!

I have many times tried to find courses, shows, and other things to stop my brain from rotting away with boredom....it's virtually impossible to find English speaking culture here. I am not of the beer swillling, bingo ilk but sadly many that live here are.

Sorry, but the type of ex-pats that are here are just not theatre goers! They are mostly beer and chips people and wouldnt know culture if it came and smacked them in the face! There are small groups that out on shows for each other all along the Costa's, all very much dreadfully amatuer and stuck in a time warp of the wartimes doing song and dance routines. Unless you're going to have strippers, have a bawdy repotoire or going to concentrate on Music hall and rubbish like that, forget it, they are just not of that ilk. Many are pensioners who have bene here years, a lot are ex-council tennants made good on the back of being able to buy their council houses, and just a few are educated enough to appreciate anything theatrical, but they will few and far between. I'm sorry if this sounds very s****., but I'm telling you how it is....and anyone who lives here will realise what I'm saying is right, even if they won't admit it themselves

You should have stated it was a kids theatre group you were looking to set up, ther answer I gave still stands for the adult population, however, there are children all over the costas' if I was looking to start something like this up, I would be looking at places either northern Costa Blanca, Jalon Valley,Javea, Denia & Calpe areas, or down on the Costa Del Sol Marbella/Malaga areas, where the typical parents in those areas would be more likely to subscribe to the arts as part of the childrens education, I would begin by looking to see where there are well established international private schools here, rather than areas with state schools only
