  1. He shows empathy towards Scout (the narrator) when she tells Atticus that her teacher told him not to teach her how to read anymore. He feels bad and promises her that they'll keep reading the paper.

    I think

    =)

  2. When he lets go of the whole, Jem-should-go-to-court-and-tell-them-it-...

thing, to not kill the mockingbird of boo radley.

He emphathizes with Boo and his wish to stay out of the public eye.

  3. Arricus shows empathy everywhere.  He is probably one of the most empathetic characters you will find in literature.  The whole novel is about his empathy for Tom Robinson for example, but he also shows empathy for everyone else with whom he comes  into contact - Boo, the Cunninghams, Calpurnia, etc.

There are numerous on line resources to help you with this novel, and with questions such as this one.  Many of them offer chapter summaries, list of characters, character sketches, discussions of themes, setting, imagery, and symbolism, etc.  Do a search for “study guides for To Kill a Mockingbird” etc., and you will find many sites.  Also, do a search here on yahoo answers for To Kill a Mockingbird and you will find a wealth of information.

  4. all of the time, especially when he sticks by defending the black man on trial, regardless of what other people say or think--he knows they're prejudiced

also maybe in the beginning, when he makes his kids go to that old lady's house (i forgot her name, but she seemed bitter but was really sick) and read to her to help her feel better.

  5. At the end.  No wait, at the beginning.  No!  In the middle.

  6. I didn't study this book at school but recently read it. It strikes me that empathy is one of the main themes running through the entire book. Empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else's shoes. This is mentioned many times by Atticus to Scout and a quick skim through should give you a quote.
