maplin is a good place check, go to their website www.maplin.co.uk

but first check the current rating (amps) of the compressor, if you get a converter with a low power rating you will burn it up if you connect the compressor to it.

Normally you should definitely find one for sale at most petrol stations. Ask for an AC outlet to 12V adapter that can hold at least 5 amps on the 12V outlet. That's how much a car compressor (tyre inflating air compressor) usually takes.
