  1. When you say memory, what do you mean? If memory would be the amount of files on your computer, it would be your hard drive. But if you mean memory as in RAM, then it would be on your RAM stick/sticks, which is on the motherboard.

  2. its called the hard drive, it looks like a metal rectangle, usually below your cd/dvd drive,

  3. Sorry, but yes. The term memory is even vague; it could mean  multiple things.

Your CPU has L1 and L2 cache memory. This is ultrafast and either on the motherboard or CPU. It allows the PC to get data to the CPU without shuttling it over the system bus,

System memory. Every computer has some, and it is attached to the motherboard. It could either be in up to 36 lone chips, or one or more modules with 4 to 9 chips a piece. It's used as a working scratch pad for your system, and temporarily stores what your working on. It's akin to a human's short term memory. It's randomly accesible.

There's also the long term physical storage memory. This would include hard disks and floppies, and they're not quite random acess. A physical head must actually move across a magnetic surface to fetch your data. This is slow, and thus they're used to store things like programs and videos. We use them because they cost pennies compared to DRAM that's used on the motherboard, and also because they don't lose data after you turn the computer off.

  4. Physical memory is the memory that's installed on the motherboard. Virtual memory is stored in the page file on the computer. This is whats used when you are low on physical memory and since it's the hard drive, it's slower.
