  1. alexandria, egypt

she was originally from greece (used to be called the hellenes)

  2. Alexandria.  The palace she lived in is now underwater.

  3. In ancient times, Alexandria was one of the most famous cities in the world. It was founded around 331 BC by Macedonian ruler Alexander the Great, who was also in his Persian Campaign, and remained Egypt's capital for nearly a thousand years, until the Arabs conquered Egypt in 641 AD and set up a capital at Fustat (later absorbed into Cairo).

Alexandria was an Hellenistic center in Egypt, where the  Hellenistic ruler of Egypt resided. Queen Cleopatra was the last Hellenistic ruler to ruled over Egypt. The Hellenistic period (4th - 1st century BC) is a period in the times in world history of the Mediterranean region usually considered to stretch from the death of Alexander the Great to the defeat of Cleopatra. It is often considered a period of transition, sometimes even of decline or decadence, between the brilliance of the Greek Classical Era and the strength of the Roman Empire.

  4. Cleopatra lived in the beautiful coastal city of Alexandria which had a mixed population of native Egyptians, Greeks, and Jews.

It was a grand metropolis, much admired by the Greeks and Romans.

Some of the famous landmarks of ancient Alexandria were :

the Great Lighthouse (one of the 7 wonders of the world),

the palace of the Ptolemies (where Cleopatra lived),

the Great Library of Alexandria (the largest collection of books in the world at the time and a great centre of learning),

the tomb of Alexander the Great who was perfectly preserved in an open coffin clothed in his war armour.

  5. Thalia has given you a good answer. Cleopatra lived in the beautiful cosmopolitan city of Alexandria on the Mediterranean coast  of Egypt, in a palace right by the water.

Here is a page from an excellent website about the Ptolemy dynasty, of which she was the last ruler (as well as the last ruler of Egypt before Rome took it over)  This particular page here has many links to info on Cleopatra VII.   If you scroll down you will see several links about the underwater archaeology of the area where her palace was.  They found some fabulous stuff in the water like a sphynx statue (lion with head of a man) representing her father Ptolemy XII and a bust of her son with Julius Caesar, named Ptolemy Caesar and nicknamed by the Alexandrians "Caesarion" --little Caesar

I don't have time now but if you do a search for my name "Ariane deR" and "Cleopatra" and limit it to answers.yahoo.com,   I have written a couple long answers to questions regarding Cleopatra VII. i have been very fond of her since I was a child (which was quite a while ago!)

  6. i think its cairo
