  1. it depends on where you ar flying in from.

Although the Battistera in Pisa is catholic, it is worth seeing the leaning tower, and there is a fortress around the entire city, and some really great buildings commissioned by the Medici's.  Near the tower is a gallery full of great works of art (including some very early woodcuts), and also nearby housed in a building which looks like a workshop are some murals...great!

If you stay in Pisa (which is cheaper than the surrounding cities) then you could take a day trip by train to Livorno, a fishing / beach community, which is charming, and also take a day trip to Florence and visit the Uffizzi art gallery which is home to Botticelli's Birth of Venus as well as some Da Vincis and Van Gogh's.  Also in Florence, if you want to skip the Piazza del Fiore De Santa Maria (which, regardless of your religious affiliation is a phenomenal structure, and you can touch the bronze doors for luck), you can walk hrough the squares and eat some fantastic food and visit the Statue of David by Michaelangelo...oh and one other thing...on your way to the Uffizi, stop along the Ponte Vecchio...

okay this is just my opinion...but it's a great long weekend trip...most of all, get out and talk to people in Pisa...they are REALLY great.  There is a lovely little restaurant called Michelle's, tucked away in a side street...fantastic noodles with wild boar sauce  and a mini bottle of the local red for practically the cost of a hamburger :o)

good luck with finding a trip...Italy is fabulous! :o) Buon Viaggio! (am a little jealous! :o) haha)
