  1. Contact furniture/carpet stores...some of them will get rid of their old sample squares and will donate them to schools and such. Not sure what time of year they get new samples, but you can always ask to be called when they need to eliminate the old ones. Good luck!

  2. You can get samples of carpets from the Distributors

Here is a listing of some of the carpet suppliers in Richmond VA, if you call them and ask them they will send you samples of carpets.

    http://www.mohawkcarpet.com/

Mohawk is one of the largest carpet distributors and they will also send you samples.

Also I don't know what the purpose of your request is but if you want squares bigger than a sample as in a remnant then you may have to pay for that.

  3. I agree contacting local home depots Lowes and carpet stores adn asking is a good idea they are likely to donate or sell cheap

Another option is Freecycle for your area

You can get Anything from these groups for free.

go to the head site www.freecycle.net

and locate the group or groups in your area.

    Than join

Be aware that when joining it is set to by default send you Each and every mail So be sure to change that to digest or no mail or it can get to be overwhelming.

You can find a lot of great stuff though.

    Good Luck

  4. I grew up in Indiana. I remember at first being able to get remnants from carpet stores, but then, as my sister and brother entered school, we had to start paying ( I remember well because my dad threw a fit) to buy the exact-size squares from those same stores.

    Everybody wants a cut ;).
