  1. Hi,

depending on where you live it should be in your grocery store, refrigerated - try by dips, dressings, cheeses, gourmet, etc...

it is very easy to make, too, i see someone already posted some recipes, here is my favorite from Healthy Appetite with Ellie Krieger, on the food network:

    Edamame Hummus:

2 cups shelled edamame, cooked according to package directions (usually in the freezer section)

1 cup silken tofu, briefly drained of excess liquid

1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste

    3 cloves garlic

    1/4 cup olive oil

1/3 cup lemon juice, plus more, to taste

1 1/2 teaspoons cumin, plus more, for garnish

Set 1 tablespoon of edamame aside for a garnish. Place the rest of the edamame, tofu, salt, garlic, oil, lemon juice[, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin in the bowl of a food processor and process until very smooth, about 2 minutes. Season with additional salt and pepper, plus more lemon juice, if desired. Remove to a serving bowl and garnish with reserved edamame, and some cumin.

i substitute whatever bean i have around if i don't have edamame.  takes just a few minutes to make and doesn't require expensive or hard to find tahini.

  2. I didn't know you COOKED with hummus...... I've always used it as a dip, or even a spread on sandwiches.   You can find it where they sell the specialty cheeses in the grocery, or at the olive bar (if your grocery has one)....  Sometimes it's also in the regular refrigerated cheese section......

  3. I've never heard of special hummus for cooking.  In my supermarket..hummus is usually with the gourmet cheeses.

  4. Hummus in my store is in the deli section.  Usually with the cheese dips, feta cheese.  Ask in the deli.

  5. It's usually in the deli section, in a refrigerator case.  It is sold in small tubs, and will probably be next to the feta.  "Athenos" is a popular brand.

  6. you can easily make your own - that's what I always do!

    BASIC HUMMUS:

2 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed

    2 tablespoons olive oil

1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained, liquid reserved

    1 tablespoon sesame seeds

    salt and pepper to taste

    DIRECTIONS

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, cook and stir the garlic in olive oil for approximately 3 minutes, until tender.

Place garbanzo beans in a blender or food processor with approximately 1 teaspoon reserved liquid. Process until smooth. Mix in the garlic, sesame seeds, salt and pepper. Blend to desired consistency, increasing the amount of reserved garbanzo bean liquid as desired. Chill in the refrigerator until serving.

    TOFU HUMMUS (for extra protein)

    1/2 cup diced silken tofu

    1/4 cup lemon juice

    2 tablespoons creamy peanut butter

    2 tablespoons olive oil

    3 cloves garlic

1 (19 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained

    DIRECTIONS

Place tofu, lemon juice, peanut butter, olive oil, garlic, and garbanzo beans in a blender or food processor. Blend until mixture is smooth. Chill until ready to serve.

  7. Wholefoods

the have a section for vegetarians and vegans

  8. Hummus is actually a dip made from chickpeas, tahini (sesame seed paste) and lemon juice.  You can find it at most natural foods stores, Middle Eastern/Mediterranean stores, or even a conventional grocery store.

  9. In London houmos is widely available, as it is in many places. I wouldn't advise cooking with it, but I am a bit eccentric and put it in a bean burrito instead of cheese.

  10. ask someone of couse that works in the store if you cant find it in a regular store go to a middle eastern market or try health stores

  11. I've never heard of anyone cooking with hummus.  At Publix, it's in the deli dept - kept cold along with the potato salad and salsa.  It's also next to the cheeses and dips in the dairy aisle.  Other than eating as a dip with chips and pita bread, you can spread on a sandwich or burrito.

  12. sorry dont know but hummus=good!!!

  13. You can find them in any major grocery stores like Safeway, Whole Foods and Luckys.  They're usually located near the pre-packaged salsa and guacamole.  Depending on the store, check the aisle that has a frig next to the produce section.

  14. Mmm, cooking with it, I've never cooked with it I use it as a dip or a spread or use it on a salad. I'm intrigued! Have you checked in the chilled fresh dip department, all the supermarkets I go to stock lots of varieties. Or you could make it:

400g can chickpeas , washed and drained

    juice ½ lemon

    1 garlic clove

    2 tbsp olive oil

    2 tbsp tahini paste

Just chuck it all in a blender, Or mush by hand with a folk. Hope that helps.

  15. you usually find it next to the specialty cheeses.

    and you dont cook it.
