Where in the North of Spain could I volunteer to work in an animal shelter?

I'm looking to volunteer in an animal shelter in Spain for 7-19 days around the start of November. I've looked all over the net, and all I can seem to find are places to volunteer with children/the disabled, or volunteer placements that you need to pay for.

One place I have found is 'The Nerja donkey sanctuary' but it is in Alicante at the bottom of Spain.

I'm 20, and will be driving from England down through France.

Thanks all!

  1. I can not tell you an specific place, but you could look something  along the lines of "Refugio de Animales" or "Sociedad Protectora de Animales".

Nonetheless, I would be surprised that you'd be able to volunteer for such a short period of time. Generally volunteers are required to have a longer commitment and may require some immunization.

In terms of provinces for you to look I would go for Huesca(not coastal), Cantabria or Asturias(both are pretty strong on coastal animals as well as preservation of forests -and hence bears, foxes, etc). Oh, and there's a small zoo in Cantabria (sorry forgot the name of it) that may also be helpful for you. Best of luck
