I've never seen one and I really want to see one. Is there a place where a person can see them better then other places? I live in Western New York and I guess there was a meteor shower earlier this month but it was so cloudy that we couldn't see a bit of it here in Western New York.

  1. Well first Not in the city there is way to many lights !!!!!!!

Probably like Out it the country like in wisconsin!

  2. All you have to do is go to a really dark spot, on a night with no moon and lay on your back and look up.

Where you live, the hard part will be the really dark area. Don't use anything but your eyes. Wait for no moon. You do not need to be in a meteor shower ( all though this helps). to see shooting stars or meteors. The dark is the most important part and of course no clouds. Every night there are many shooting stars, most people never look.

  3. As others have said, the best place to see a meteor shower is as far away from city lights as you can get.  To answer your question more directly, the best place in the US to see any type of meteor shower is out West, say the deserts of New Mexico or Arizona.  Maybe Montana with it's "big skies."  You missed the last shower, but the Leonid shower is due sometime in October or November.

For me, these things are never the way they're predicted.  If it's 60 an hour, I'll see one in five minutes.  And if it's really supposed to be good, a fog bank rolls in an hour before it's supposed to happen like it did five years ago.   Ha ha.

  4. Any place away from interfering light pollution should work. It is best to use only your unaided eyes and to look after midnight as this is when these "shooting stars" enter our atmosphere directly head on. You can find the schedule of the major showers at astronomy.com. They are named after the constellation they seem to radiate from. However, there are always random meteors in each night sky.

  5. Just get out of the city and hope you're lucky.  Find out when a meteor shower is and leave the city as the air pollution and lights prevent you from seeing much of anything.
