  1. Please consider my home city of San Francisco.   I've lived here for around 40 years and I love it.  I don't know if you'd be able to get a visa that would allow you to work as a surveyor in the US.  You could get that information from the US Consulate in London most likely.

  2. Come to Canada, you won't regret it.

  3. We have a large ex-pat community in the Virginia horse country.  (Many came because of the fox hunting.) Even the big supermarket chains here have a selection of McVitties and Marmite and the like, just to make you feel at home.  There are pubs and restaurants owned and run by ex-pats.  Heck, even the local dance studio is run by a graduate from the Royal Academy of Dance.

I'm sure there are other enclaves throughout the country.  Best of luck!

  4. The USA is a huge country.  We've got every climate you can imagine.  Where you live is really a personal decision based on your interests.  Obviously, if you enjoy the beach Montana would be out of the question.  If skiing is your thing Florida would be a poor choice.

Do you have a professional degree (4 years) related to being a surveyor?  Do you have 12 years experience?  These are the basic requirements for a work visa (skilled labor).

No visas for unskilled labor are available.

Getting a visa, even if 100% qualified, will be difficult.

  5. Move to Yuma, Arizona. Fabulous weather, cosmopolitan city, excellent work prospects, great skyscrapers. You'll love it.
