  1. I never found it..

  2. Hello,

    Nowhere; it is something theologians inferred from the Bible much like the concepts of the Rapture and Eternal Security that were also deduced but not directly mentioned as such.

    Cheers,

  3. To answer the 1st question why do catholics say Mary intercedes for us.

    Perhaps going back to the Bible.  The New Testment Gospel of John chapter 2.....the entire passage of the Wedding Feast at Cana.  Depending on what version of the bible you are reading could be verse 5.

    Better to read this in the context of the gospel.  The bible refers to Mary instruction to those waiting on table ''Do what ever he asks.'

    Also the Gospel of John Chapter 19 vs 26-27 again depending on what version of the bible the vs could be numbered differently.

  4. I'm Catholic, and I'll be happy to answer your questions.

    If you'll recall from reading your Bible, Jesus said that everyone is alive to God. (Luke 20:38) This means that all believers, whether in Heaven or still on earth, are united in Christ in what is known as the Communion of Saints. Since all believers in Heaven -- including Mary and the cannonized saints -- are alive, we can ask them to pray for us, just as we can ask a friend at church or a family member to intercede for our needs.

    Mary is a beautiful role model for Christians because she was/is brave, loyal, humble, and most of all, loving and trusting. The archangel Gabriel even said that she was blessed among women. Why would anyone be worried about asking her to pray for them, since she is in Heaven and free from any stain of sin?

    Those who are trying to tell you that she's dead and can't hear our requests for her intercession apparently don't know their Bibles very well, when Jesus Himself told us differently.

    Edit:

    Why are non-Catholics answering this question? The person who posted this specifically asked for "Catholics only."

    I didn't realize that reading comprehension disorders were that common here in R&S.

  5. it doesn't.  However, Hebrews talks about the special nature of our Great High Priest who does intercede on our behalf.  And Romans talks about the Holy Spirit within us that intercedes with groanings on our behalf.

  6. no where. Jesus said He is the only mediator between God and man.

  7. The Theotokos, Mary the Mother of God

    First and foremost among the saints is Mary, the Mother of God. The Church gives her the title "Theotokos," which means "God-bearer," primarily in order to safeguard the identity of her Son as fully God and fully Man. Mary stands first in line of all of redeemed humanity because she was the first to receive the Holy Spirit, the first to have Christ dwelling in her, and the first to be taken to heaven.

    Mary is greatly honored in the Orthodox Church, but in common with the other saints, she is not worshipped. Nor is she regarded as a mediator between God and man. Rather, she leads the Church in its intercession before God. In icons, Mary is almost always depicted with Christ; in the most common pose, she holds the infant Christ in one arm and gestures toward him with the other hand, directing the believer's attention to Christ. When we sing in the Liturgy, "Most Holy Theotokos, save us," we are not suggesting that Mary saves in the same sense that Christ saves-that is, salvation from death and damnation. Rather, we are asking Mary to protect us from the dangers of this earthly life through her prayers on our behalf, just as we ask our brothers and sisters in Christ to pray for us. As St. James wrote, "Let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins" (James 5:20).

    Mary is foremost among the saints because she made our salvation possible. She was chosen by God to bear His Son, but she had to give her consent to this choice. She is called the "New Eve" (as Christ is the "New Adam") because, by her obedience, she lifted the curse that was laid on mankind through the disobedience of Eve.

    Mary in Orthodox and Roman Catholic thought

    Orthodox belief about Mary differs in some respects from the Roman Catholic view. The Roman Catholics regard Mary as having been born free from original sin (the doctrine of the Immaculate Conception) and thus as being worthy to bear the sinless Christ. The Orthodox Church, by contrast, does not accept the doctrine of original sin in the first place; humans are seen as bearing the fallen nature of Adam, but not the guilt of his sin. Mary is seen as a remarkably pure young woman whose birth and nurture were planned and prepared by God ages in advance; at the Annunciation, when she accepted her role as Mother of God, she was completely cleansed of sin by the Holy Spirit coming upon her.

    Both Orthodox and Roman Catholics regard Mary as Ever-Virgin. Her virginity was not violated in the conception or birth of Jesus, and she did not have marital relations with Joseph after Jesus' birth. (References in the Scripture to Jesus' "brothers" refer either to stepbrothers or to cousins.) There is a subtle difference in emphasis here between the two churches, however. In Roman Catholicism, there seems to be a notion that Mary must be ever-virgin because sexual intercourse involves corruption, even within lawful marriage. In the Orthodox Church, on the other hand, Mary's ever-virginity represents her complete dedication to God; it does not imply any slur on the marriage bed, which is holy and undefiled. Thus the Virgin Mary relates to both those who are married with children and those who choose celibacy.

    Orthodox and Roman Catholics both maintain that Mary was taken bodily into heaven immediately after her death. (This event is called the Assumption in the Catholic Church and the Dormition in the Orthodox Church.) Thus Mary confirmed the promise of our bodily resurrection at the Last Day. The only difference here is that the Roman Catholic Church has dogmatized this view, while in Orthodoxy only doctrines regarding the nature of the Trinity have the status of dogma.

    In popular Catholic piety, if not in dogma, Mary often seems to assume a stature equal to that of Christ. She is often depicted alone, and there is a movement to designate her as "co-Mediatrix" with Christ. This confusion of roles between Mary and her Son is completely foreign to Orthodoxy.

    The Life of the Theotokos

    The Bible itself tells us relatively little about Mary's life. However, there are ancient sources the Orthodox Church regards as authoritative that tell us much more. From these sources we learn that Mary was the daughter of a righteous couple, Joachim and Anna, of the tribe of Levi. Joachim was a temple assistant. The two lived into old age with no child, which was regarded as a disgrace and a sign of God's disfavor. After Joachim's sacrifice at the temple was rejected because of his childlessness, he and Anna separately prayed fervently that God would grant them a child, promising to dedicate that child to God's service. They each received an angelic message telling them that their prayers would be answered. A beautiful icon depicts the elderly couple embracing in front of their bed as they meet after receiving this message.

    In due time, Mary was born, and she was raised by her

  8. I'm sorry to answer as I am not Catholic, but the Bible DOESN'T say anything about this.

    Catholics have another set of rules.  It's actually against Bible teaching.

  9. It's called INTERCESSION we ask Mary and Saints to pray for us just like you would ask a family or friend to pray for you. We pray DIRECTLY to God and Worship God alone not Saints or Mary!.

    And it is Bibilical here you have some referance,Thus, in Psalm 103 we pray, "Bless the Lord, O you his angels, you mighty ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word! Bless the Lord, all his hosts, his ministers that do his will!" (Ps. 103:20–21). And in the opening verses of Psalms 148 we pray, "Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens, praise him in the heights! Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his host!"

    Not only do those in heaven pray with us, they also pray for us. In the book of Revelation, John sees that "the twenty-four elders [the leaders of the people of God in heaven] fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints" (Rev. 5:8). Thus the saints in heaven offer to God the prayers of the saints on earth.

    Angels do the same thing: "[An] angel came and stood at the altar [in heaven] with a golden censer; and he was given much incense to mingle with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar before the throne; and the smoke of the incense rose with the prayers of the saints from the hand of the angel before God" (Rev. 8:3–4).

    Catholics and Orthodox Worship God and God alone

    ``````````````````````````````````````...
    Mary is not dead 'she is no longer in this World' but  she is in Heaven. I will give you one easy example that is even in the KJV. When Elijah and Moses appeared to Jesus were they dead?, NO!. We do pray directly and Worship God but we ask the Saints and Mary for intercession ' For them to pray for us'.
    I have to agree with you Wolfblayde funny how Non Catholics love to answer Catholic questions, Maybe I should answer a few questions aimed at fundies LOL.
  10. where in the bible does it say that a great anti christ will come to deceive nations, and his name shall be Barrack Obama
  11. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Ithaca/7...
  12. It doesn't say anything about that in the Bible.  As a cradle Catholic who knows his fair share of world religions, I'd venture to say that Mary was exalted as an alternative for those being "converted" (invaded) that believed in a Goddess.  Mary would be their Goddess after being "converted" (invaded).
  13. It doesnt,the catholic religion is one of many falsehoods,hence,a false religion.
  14. It doesn't directly, but there are many indirect references to it.  I can't list them all here, but one of the ones that always sticks out in my mind is the "Wedding Feast at Cana", where the bride and groom go to Mary, Mary goes to Jesus (Jesus makes sure she understands what his actions will mean), and Mary tells the Bride and Groom "Do whatever he tells you".
    EDIT: There's a lot of reason that the early Church Fathers used, that we can still apply.  Jesus is God--his mother has to be considerably important for God to have chosen her.
    Likewise, God would not want his son to be subjected to ANY sin for ANY amount of time.  By that reasoning, Mary would have to be pure and , completely without sin, original or otherwise.  That's why we consider her to be so special.
    With God, all things are possible.  Luke 1 also has a lot or references to how special Mary is. "Hail, full of Grace" from the angel Gabriel, for example.
    Also, when Jesus was on the Cross, he told Mary to behold her son (John) and John to behold his mother (Mary).  Mary and John were not mother and son--Jesus was basically telling them that Mary will be the mother of us all.
    The Bible is inspired--everything in it was written for a reason, and these two passages have some very deep meanings associated with them.
  15. We wrote it we did not add it.  The wedding feast at cana, Blessed Mother intercededfor Jesus to perfomr His first miracle, she has been doing it ever since. We werre there. turn or burn heretic.
    A catholic has come foward, your question is way condescending from a heretic who has one foot in gehenna.  Go back to your legos and bring me your pastor.
    From genisus to revalations Blessed Mother has been prohesied, and enthroned as Queen of heaven.  she is ther througought the bible, and she has been intereceding for us since she aquesied to give birth to Our Lord and savior ... Dah ... where do you fndies come up with this baloney ... turn or burn heretic.
    Sola Scriptura ?
    Go get a copy of the marine corp. manual, take it home study it. Don't forget to rip out the five chapters that contradict what you are doing.
    Get other people together to study it, implement it in your life, get the people who you study it with to implement it in there lives.
    Oh, don’t forget to get your official marine corps manual concordance, so you can look up words and phrases like “simper fi”, “Iwo Jima”, “Helmet”, “Grenade”, and “Honor”,  etc.
    Now does this make you guys marines?
    I think not.
    You are missing pretty much everything that it means to be a marine. You haven't had the training that they have done for years you don't have the history -- the understanding of what it means to BE a marine as passed on from the founder of the marine corp to his first lieutenants and on down through the ranks through the years – the direct link to the founder of the marine corp. and writers of the manual, nor do you have  the word of mouth testimony (those unwritten instructions that the founder himself – who by the way did not write the manual -- passed on to his first lieutenants, things the marines have been doing for years),  nor do you have the true meaning of what the manual says. Because, of course, outside of the marine corp., the manual is MEANINGLESS.
    People who belong to bible studying fellowships who believe in the doctrine of solely scripture, scripture first, scripture only -- sola scriptura are no more Christians than are the people who got together to study the marine manual are marines.
    Now that you and your friends have studied the marine corp manual. Go out in front of a marine corp. recruiting station and as people walk in hand them a tract from the manual and get them to come join you. Go to a marine corp. camp and do the same thing see if they will join you marine corp. manual studying fellowship. But don't call yourselves that. Call yourselves, "marines". Go to the veterans day parade and hand out tracts from the manual there, and tell them to come to your marine barracks. Let people know that you have the way that all they have to do is study the manual with you and they too can be marines.
    Oh yes and erect marine corp. manual studying colleges and graduate what?
    Experts in misunderstanding the marine corp. manual.
    And OHHHH yes don't forget to call yourselves not just marines but "heroes(saints)", because after all everyone who is part of your marine corp., manual studying fellowship is a "hero(saint)", after all the manual says that doesn't it?  Forget about honoring real marine “Heroes(Saints)” like Colonel Louis C. Plain and Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone;  or Gunnery Sergeant Donald A. Levesque (RET); or Marine Cpl. Jason Dunham ... etc.; for after all the manual tells us not to do that, right?
    Then, go up to a real marine (if you dare) tell them what you are doing, and ask them what is wrong with it?
  16. Our high priest and mediator alone is Christ for which he said no one comes to the Father but by me and me alone.   Mary was only the vessel through which Christ was born....she should not take precedence over Jesus.  I do believe in Intercessory prayer (praying for one another in Christ's name to the Father.) here on earth but after we die our service here on earth is done  We cannot pray to the dead on behalf of the living God warns us about that in Dt. and Isa.
  17. I am not Catholic presently; I did attend one fora while though.
    Clarification; the scriptures do not render it as 'Mary'; they render it presently (in English) as mother of the king. (Jesus; King of kings). The scriptural reference is 'techniquely' Bathsheba.
    She was to intercede for Adonijah(sp?).
    What 'we' tend to call death is not teh end of life; but the changing of it from being a spiritual/mental life with a physical body to a spiritual/mental life without a physical body (as we presently knowit)..
  18. There is no mention of this in the Bible. In fact, there is very little mention of Mary in total as the entire focus was to be on Jesus. The Bible Clearly spells out that there is only one mediator between man and God being Jesus Christ as He is the only one who has the authority to enter into the presence of the Father on our behalf. It's a pity that many don't refer to their Bible as it is God's "love letter" to mankind. The Lord can't and won't hear any prayers offered through any one other than Jesus Christ as He is the only one with that authority.
  19. It is not scriptural, it is RC dogma.  They also have declared her co-redemptrix without scriptural authority.
  20. It isn't in the Bible, but the idea is that the Virgin Mary has a connection to God since He chose her to be His Son's mother on earth. Us Catholics have not created any deities or false gods. We have called some people 'Saints' because God have them a gift or a mission in life. God chose them for their hearts and if they are worthy for God, they are an example of what we should aspire to become. Some Catholics pray to these saints because unconciously they feel unworthy to speak (pray) to God themselves and therefore need a connection. There are also other Catholics that pray to specific Saints because they feel that they will better explain (for lack of a better word) to God what their struggles are since their life path has something in common with them. The Virgin Mary for example was a mother, therefore, many mothers and hopping-mothers-to-be pray to her to intercede because they have problems with their children or because they want to conceive. They believe she will hear their prayers and will 'talk' to God on their behalf.
  21. The Catholic church has seen fit to exalt Mary much higher than God ever intended for her to be exalted, that is, if He intended for humans to exalt her at all. Somehow I doubt Mary is the least bit amused with all the worship and prayers being made on account of her. The real Mary is a lovely saint and was blessed above all women. No question. The one that the Catholics have made is kind of creepy. The Catholic one has some kind of mystical qualities, probably cuz of pagan origin.
    I am far from ever being a Catholic, but I did give you a very serious explanation.
  22. One thing must be known first, is that God always has mysteries hidden from the heretics, proud, and Anti-Catholics. Mary comes at the top of all.
    Mary is the only one who has joined her Son in a glorious body. At Jesus coming, all Saints will be resurrected in glorious body.
    Mary has become the Mother of the Church, Queen of heaven and earth, Queen of Angels and Saints. All graces from the Most High come through her, as God has willed. Mary constantly intercede for her children who pray to her, and the Saints are formed in her. And not all Catholics understand this mystery.
    St Louis De Montfort writes:
    God the Holy Spirit, became fruitful through Mary whom he espoused. It was with her, in her and of her that he produced his masterpiece, God-made-man, and that he produces every day until the end of the world the members of the body of this adorable Head. For this reason the more he finds Mary his dear and inseparable spouse in a soul the more powerful and effective he becomes in producing Jesus Christ in that soul and that soul in Jesus Christ…
    God became our Father when He begot His Only Son Jesus, "His Firstborn among many brethren", through Mary; "You are my Son, today I have begotten you". We can not call God our Father unless we also call Mary our Mother; then the Son "He is not ashamed to call them brethren, saying: I will declare Your name to my brethren; in the midst of the assembly will I praise You".
    Of the many prophesies in the Old Testament about the Virgin Mary, one marvelous prophesy also reveals that the Body of Christ is produced through Mary. It is in the prophesy about the birth of Christ "And you, Bethlehem Ephrata, are a little one among the thousands of Judah, out of you shall He come forth unto Me who is to be the ruler in Israel (Christ to be born in Bethlehem), and his going forth is from the beginning, from the days of eternity (Deity of Christ). Therefore He shall give them up (Christ to abandon the Jews after his rejection and crucifixion), until the time wherein she who travails (the Virgin Mary) shall bring forth (The birth of the Church of Saints in heaven; the Church translated to glory); and the remnant of His brethren shall return to the children of Israel (salvation of the remnant of Israel in the end times)" (Prophet Micah 5:2,3).
    I have Saints Books and more information on my Site that will answer most of your questions.
  23. it doesn't
  24. In the story at the Wedding at Cana. Many people miss this because they are turned off after the Lord addressed his mother as "Woman,"  taking this to mean she was putting Mary in her place.  Read on with an open mind.  Catholics have been using this channel unfailingly for hundreds of generations, her only instruction to us is to "do whatever He tells you."
  25. It does Not- neither does Limbo, Purgatory, Lent and a host of other traditions not only in the Catholic church but in other denominations at large.
  26. GOOD ONE! I'm anxious to see them answer this one!
