  1. Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms usually grow on patties that have had a little time to soak themselves into the soil - I would guesstimate that 2 week-old patties would be ideal. The mushrooms may be growing either straight out of the patty or very near it. As for picking, cubensis mushrooms are fully mature when the veil has broken and the caps are relatively flat (depending on the strain). The ideal time to pick is 24-36 hours after a good rain (0.5" or more) in 65-85F weather. Be sure to identify them PROPERLY and THOROUGHLY before consuming any mushroom!

  2. First get a good identification book (or if you can afford it.....get a few of them).

I would guess they are more likely to be just in the vicinity of the 'patties'. In the uk we mainly use liberty caps, they grow in cattle fields but this is NOT essential. We find them on roundabouts(not just liberties we are seeing more and more new varieties do to climate change etc etc), playing fields all sorts of places.

As the mushroom is the fruiting body and the actual shroom (mycelium) is there all the time, it's just a coincidence if it grows up through a patty.

Please do not eat anything you don't know what it is, you may regret it a few days later.

Remember 'set and setting' for your trip thi is very important.

    happy shrooming !
