Question:

Where in the engine/transmission is the front transmission pump located for a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Please be very specific. I had a transmission leak and Dodge said it was from the front transmission pump. They SAID they replaced the pump, however, the leak is still there and it does not appear that the bolt has even been turned or anything removed from where my husband thinks it is. (Which is also the location of the leak.) (Just FYI...they also said I needed new rotors and brakes but my husband installed those. They were NOT needed and the brakes had been pulsing because a hose was disconnected. Saved $400+ (from NOT having them do it) but still out $150 in parts to replace non-worn pads/rotors.)

  1. when you say dodge you mean dealer if so then you was taking a chance of not getting it done right never take a car to a dealer they sell cars more than work on cars plus they are the highest place to go ... trans pump is inside the transmission which is unliely a leak but a seal maybe.. a transmission shop woul dbe wiser

  2. the front pump is located at the front of the trans you have to remove the trans from the vehicle to service it

if the trans is overfilled it can cause a leak from this area also

if your brakes were pulsating when you applied them its unlikely to have been a disconnected house and sounds like warped rotors

  3. Transmission Oil pump is located at the torque converter to transmission case opening, so replacing it would require removing the entire transmission (transaxle)

A leak at the pan gasket, cooler line hoses, solenoid pack and differential cover could all be mistaken for a pump leak, as the fluid will run to the lowest point, usually right below the dust cover of the torque converter, centered on the case of the transaxle.

An overfilled trans will sometimes vent through the pressure relief valve located on the top of the shift lever shaft, not in the pump area.

Sounds like the dealer made some quick money off you, by charging warranty for a front pump seal replacement, then never did the repair, (Customer pays deductible, Chrysler pays dealership, Tech gets hours ($$)  for doing nothing, customer gets pissed, loses time and money, and dealership get a bad reputation), but they really don't care much unless you complain or protest.

You  need to take it back and have them re-inspect the job. maybe they just left something loose (cooler line clamp, didn't really find the leak,?).

  4. its right behind the torque converter so they would have had to remove the transmission to replace it,that's the only way they would have been able to have got to it,good luck.,,Ps take it somewhere and have them check and see if the transmission has actually been removed from it,they may not have did nothing to it,good luck.
